A new "old style" Rum fetched $20,000:

This single rare bottle of Martha Washington Colonial Rum fetched $20,000 for Historic Mount Vernon’s educational programs at a gala auction on the mansion grounds last night sponsored by the Distilled Spirits Council.

Captain Morgan gets new distillery:

Bacardi is loosing distilleries, but Captain Morgan is collecting. Diageo has signed a public-private initiative with the US Virgin Islands Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. for the construction and operation of a high capacity distillery on the island of St. Croix.

Bacardi is available all over the world, so also in Shanghai. Even though in Europe the sales are going down, in the spring of 2008 Bacardi did a special Chinese promotion with some gifts. Over there it is still "hot"

Prichard's new bottle:

Somewhere in the summer of 2007, Phil Prichard started to carve some wood with his knife. The wood started to shape like a bottle. Like the bottle that he uses for his fine Rum. But it was not that exact bottle, no. It was almost that bottle, but slightly different. It was more square instead of round.

Bacardi Nassau has first interested buyer:

The first rum producer is expressing interest in buying the Nassau Bacardi facility, only days after the announcement that the 42-year operation will close in 2009.

"Yes, sir, we're interested," said Phil Prichard, owner of Prichards' Distillery in Tennessee.

Bacardi Breezer stops in Germany:

It is not going well with the Bacardi Breezer. After stating the sales in the Netherlands collapsed Bacardi decided to stop selling their drink in Germany.

Fire at St. Lucia distillery:

St. Lucia Distillers had a major fire in their offices and blending plant. Mercifully their distillery and aged stock was not affected. They are currently rebuilding and have resumed production of their rums for the local market.

Changing looks and name at KRB Lea:

KRB Lea Jamaica Rums Limited has given its Trelawny range of rums a whole new look and name: Port Royal Rum. Since the new Shareholders acquired KRB Lea in 2002 from Stephen Fung Lee and Michael Shim for an undisclosed price, the new Shareholders so far invested about $20 million to secure a niche for their products.

Bacardi closes distillery in Nassau:

Angostura Holdings wants a major stake in Jamaica based Lascelles, deMercado and Co, the parent company of Rumproducer Wray & Nephew (producer of the Appleton Estate rum brand) so they have made a friendly bid that has a deadline of 1 January 2008.

Wine and spirits group Brown-Forman will import the 40 % Appleton Reserve rum into the USA. They already import the Appleton Estate V/X, Appleton Estate Extra and the Appleton Estate 21 year old.
