Before we start: Normally I don't drink white Rum straight. I always have it in a cocktail, but for this tasting I had to drink as it is. This Rum is distilled 4 times and filtered 5 times after ageing in White American Oak.
Looks: A modern tall bottle with orange writing on it and a stamp as logo. It looks different from the aged brown Diplomatico, but it still is very familiar and recognisable as family to it. It also has a bit of an Vodka look, but I guess that is done to appeal to the youth..
Nose: Very smooth. It is very gentle and light, but I can smell it is not a Vodka but a Rum. Still, I think many Vodka lovers will love this drink. The nose has a small buttery smell that makes it very pleasant and there is even some fruits in it like orange and peach. There is no bite in the nose, so the alcohol is very well hidden. This is a very good start for me.
Taste: There is more bite here, but not too much. Again the buttery thing is there, but it is even more light here. The alcohol gives some warmth and the bite keeps the drink alive. The fruitiness has gone to the background here. This is a very well balanced Rum.
After: A slightly dry/sweet after taste. Lucky for me it is not too sweet. The dryness doesn't dry the mouth, but makes it very pleasant and still leaves some oiliness in the mouth. The aftertaste is not very long, but it will do for me. After a while the orange taste comes back a bit. Lovely!
Extra: The strongest point for me is the smoothness in the nose with the fruitiness.
Mix ability: I think this Rum is too smooth for a Daiquiri, but a mix with some fruits will go fine here. Take some pineapple, orange or even coconut to make your own special mix.
Total: This is a very good white Rum with good modern looks. Smooth enough for straight drinking, but I think they want you to use it in mix. This is also a Rum that will go very well instead of many Vodka cocktails. Therefore this is a product that will make the market grow, as soon as those Vodka lovers give this drink a try.
